The firm was founded in Birmingham c. 1860 by Alfred George Horton and Harry Allday.
Horton died in 1886 and the business was continued by Allday alone maintaining the name Horton & Allday.
The firm was active at 193 Warstone Lane, Birmingham where remained until 1931 when moved to 58 Northampton Street.
A gorgeous, large sterling silver perfume bottle or flask made by English silver makers, Horton & Allday.
The bottle features beautiful, high relief swirls, flowers and snakes! Incredible Victorian Art Nouveau Style.
The bottle is very large and measures 9 1/2" long and 2 1/8" wide at the widest. Weighs 254 grams.
The side of the bottle is hallmarked with hallmarks:
1. Circular Head Duty Mark
2. Lion Passant for Sterling Silver
3. Anchor for Birmingham
4. Lower Case "m" for 1886
5. H&A for Horton & Allday
Hallmarks around the neck of the bottle also:
1. Circular Head Duty Mark
2. Lower Case "m" for 1886
In excellent condition with no splits, holes or repairs. Minor dings on solid monogram area.
The top of the bottle has a slight indentation from pressing the top closed over the years.
The interior stopper is filled with some fiber filler and closes perfectly.
I believe the inner body is glass.
Gorgeous, stunning craftsmanship and rare antique.
